Most pool workouts are unstructured lap swimming — endurance-focused, low-impact, and largely ineffective for fat loss. The SwimLean Method is different.     Assess

    Week 1 — Foundational screening

    A 22-point movement and water-comfort assessment establishes your baseline: resting heart rate, joint range of motion, stroke proficiency, and a goal weight trajectory. This phase replaces guesswork with measurable starting points.

    Physiological rationale: Sympathetic nervous system engagement cannot be safely increased without a cardiovascular baseline; this phase prevents the overtraining crash common in unsupervised pool programs.

    Build Stroke

    Weeks 2–3 — Technique calibration

    Stroke efficiency drills adapted to your body — not a swim-team template. The goal is a stroke rate that maximizes calories per length while minimizing shoulder load.

    Physiological rationale: A more hydrodynamic body position reduces drag, increases stroke length, and shifts work from anaerobic (lactic) to aerobic (fat-oxidizing) energy systems.

    Metabolic Sets

    Weeks 4–8 — The fat-burning engine

    Interval-based work blocks of 30–90 seconds at higher heart-rate zones, separated by active recovery. This is where the 450–700 calorie-per-session numbers come from — and where most members see their first measurable scale change.

    Physiological rationale: Post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) remains elevated for 14–22 hours after a properly loaded Metabolic Set, sustaining fat oxidation well after the member leaves the pool.

    Sustain

    Weeks 9–12 — Consolidation & autonomy
